MOISSANITE BACKGROUND
Moissanite named as same as the inventor Henry Moissan. In 1893,
while him examining rock samples from a meteor crater
in Canyon Diablo Arizona. Moissanite
is the registered brand name for a man-made silicon carbide gemstone produced
by Charles & Collard. Gem-quality Moissanite sparkles more brilliantly than
a diamond and is more durable than a ruby, sapphire or emerald. Moissanite
originally referred to rare mineral having a chemical formula Sic and various
crystalline polymorphs. Earlier, this has been synthesized in the laboratory
and named silicon carbide. Analysis of Sic grains found in the Murchison
carbonaceous contrite meteorite has revealed anomalous isotopic ratios of
carbon and silicon, indicating an origin from outside the solar system, 99% of
these Sic grains originate around carbon-rich Asymptotic giant branch stars.
Sic is commonly found these as deduced from their infrared spectra, Moissanite
have 3 colors: transparent, green, and yellow. Moissanite that is very similar
to diamond in both appearance and hardness. Moissanite
is now being produced in the laboratory, and used widely in jewelry.
